Does plant stanol ester have any side effects?

  • MOST ASKED QUESTIONS

No. First off, don’t forget that plant stanols and plant stanol ester are already part of our diet, as they’re naturally found in a wide range of plant foods such as cereals, vegetable oils, nuts and seeds, but only in tiny amounts. And, plant stanols themselves are virtually unabsorbed and instead simply pass through our digestive system, which is why they do not have any other effects in the body than actually reducing cholesterol uptake.

Need more convincing? No side effects have ever been reported in the numerous studies that have been carried out with plant stanol ester since the early 1990s, and regulatory bodies around the world, including the European Food Safety Authority have found them to be safe and effective in lowering cholesterol levels.
